Amaryllis bulbs make a wonderful gift for the Holidays!
A timeless holiday classic! 'Carmen' produces magnificent, velvety crimson-red blooms with large, elegant trumpet-shaped flowers reaching approximately 6–8 inches across. Its rich, saturated color makes a stunning statement in holiday arrangements or as a standalone centerpiece.
Our premium 36/38 cm Dutch bulbs offer excellent potential for multiple flower stalks, creating a spectacular indoor display throughout the winter months.
Amaryllis are surprisingly easy to grow indoors and produce spectacular, oversized blooms during the winter months. With a little care, your bulb can be enjoyed for years to come!
Planting Instructions
Choose Your Container: Select a sturdy pot with drainage holes, approximately 1–2 inches wider than the bulb. Amaryllis prefer a snug fit!
Plant Your Bulb: Fill the pot with a quality, well-draining potting mix. Position the bulb with its pointed end facing upward, leaving the upper one-third of the bulb exposed above the soil.
Water Sparingly: Water lightly after planting, allowing excess water to drain. Avoid overwatering while the bulb is dormant. Once new growth appears, gradually increase watering.
Provide Light & Warmth: Place your amaryllis in a bright, warm location, ideally 65–75°F. A sunny window is perfect! Rotate the pot occasionally to encourage straight, even growth.
Enjoy the Blooms: Dutch amaryllis generally flower approximately 8–12 weeks after planting, depending on the variety and growing conditions. As flowers open, move your plant to a slightly cooler location away from direct sunlight and heating vents to extend the bloom period.
Watering: Once actively growing, water when the upper 1–2 inches of soil feel dry. Never allow the bulb to sit in standing water.
After Flowering: Remove faded flowers and cut back the flower stalk once flowering is complete, leaving the green foliage intact. Continue providing bright light, water, and occasional fertilizer to help the bulb replenish its energy for future blooms.
Can I Save My Bulb for Next Year?
Absolutely! Amaryllis are perennial bulbs that can bloom again with proper care. Continue growing the foliage through spring and summer, then provide a cool, dry resting period of approximately 8–10 weeks before restarting growth.
Important: Amaryllis are not winter-hardy outdoors in New York. Grow indoors during the colder months, and keep away from pets and children, as all parts of the plant are toxic if ingested.
Growing times are approximate. Each bulb is a living plant, and flowering performance will vary with environmental conditions.
